Drea's father was a furniture manufacturer. Her mother, Donna, was a playwright. De Matteo spent her early childhood in Queens where she was raised primarily by her grandmother and a Nicaraguan nanny. The family then moved to the Upper East Side in Manhattan.
Drea has an AC/DC tattoo. Morevoer has tattooed onto her body her mother's, father's and grandmother's names.
